On June 24th, 2003, Saturn and Uranus will be exactly 120 degrees apart. Astrologers call this angle a trine because the involved planets are separated by a distance of 1/3 of the 360 degree circle of the entire sky. A trine relationship is usually felt to be harmonious and auspicious. The energies represented by the involved planets are recognized to be working together in an easy and predominantly positive way.
Astrologically, the planet Saturn is resonant with a range of potentials that include structure, authority, time, universal laws, boundaries, and karma. The planet Uranus is resonant with potentials like innovation, insight, intuition, collective activity, sudden change and transcendence. When Saturn and Uranus work together in a harmonious way, possibilities of deep insights emerge--the inner workings of authority, karma, and universal principles begin to reveal themselves. However, there is also a converse potential--though it is less favored--a potential that the influence of authority will be leveraged for the purpose of profoundly manipulating the opinions and will of the masses.
Saturn and Uranus have a 45 year cycle. We won't witness this particular configuration again for at least 15 years. However, the effects of this current Saturn-Uranus trine will likely be felt for many years to come.
As this trine happens, Saturn and Uranus are both entering new signs. Saturn is entering Cancer, and Uranus is entering Pisces. Cancer and Pisces are both water signs. The last time Saturn trined Uranus during a change of signs was during the years 1912-1914. In those years, Uranus was entering Aquarius and Saturn was entering Gemini. Aquarius and Gemini are air signs. Interestingly, this was the exact period when Albert Einstein first articulated his theory of General Relativity.
Einstein's theories marked a great innovation in human thought. Potent intellectual discoveries are strongly resonant with Saturn trine Uranus in air signs. Observing this correlation, we may wonder what types of profound innovations are likely with Saturn and Uranus trining in water signs.
